A kitchen that says hugs and home-baked goodness is the heart of this custom-built farmhouse in rural North Carolina. We were delighted to partner with our client, who is an avid cook and baker, to add many special features including the brick-enclosed wood burning cook stove. Hand-painted tile, warmly stained cabinets in quarter-sawn oak, and windows with expansive views of the rolling countryside create a space that is both cozy and welcoming.

Tamara Heather Interior Design gave this homeowner’s kitchen and living room a fresh new look in a soft palette of ivory, gold, and touches of aqua blue. The kitchen underwent a full renovation, with all cabinetry and surfaces replaced, bringing light and airiness to a formerly dark and dated space. New furnishings and wall color uplift the living room and create a soft and inviting place that reflects the homeowner’s classical and feminine style.

**Featured in Charlotte Home & Garden magazine** This second-level bonus room space was converted into a cozy bedroom suite for the client’s teenage son. Built-ins and window seat add architectural detail and functional storage to the room, and a custom-designed wood headboard with drop-down panels allows the queen size bed to nest perfectly into the window dormer. The suite includes a full bath, which was built out of a former closet. The color palette of slate blue-grey and aqua with orange accents keeps the look boy-friendly yet sophisticated. This tiny room, formerly a home office, was transformed into a bright and cheerful nautical-themed nursery. The installation of bead board wainscoting and plantation shutters adds crisp architectural detail, while red accents including a weathered whale plaque lend a pop of color. A seaglass-hued paint color on the ceiling softens the overall effect.

Designed for a busy family with two young children, this family room easily transitions from playtime to cocktail hour. These homeowners hired Tamara to to assist with an update to their 1980’s era home, targeting the kitchen, dining room and powder room. The kitchen underwent a complete overhaul, with custom designed cabinetry, new lighting, flooring and tilework. The room was opened up by removing a wall to the adjacent family room. A new butler’s pantry and laundry room were added and act as a pass-through to the dining room, which was also updated with new wood flooring and paint. The powder room received a custom-designed vanity and new tile backsplash.

Built into a steeply sloping site, the home maximizes its long-range southwest views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The clean, contemporary interiors are warmed by hand-built furnishings and art sourced from local artisans and galleries.
