Tamara Heather Interiors Newsletter: Summer 2024

Greetings, friends!

With the Paris summer Olympics just getting underway, I’ve been reminiscing ahout our trip earlier this year. Travel has always been a major source of inspiration  for my work and this trip was no exception. I wanted to share with you some of the beautiful art and design we saw while visting Pompidou Center and LV Fondation, two of Paris’s contemporary/modern art museums. These were some of my favorites from the trip – masterful examples of color, form and composition:

Project Spotlight: Re-Making a Home in SouthPark

We were just finishing up furnishing my client’s previous home, in fact, still waiting on a few pieces of furniture to be delivered, when they called me with a surprise. They just bought a new home and planned to move everything to SouthPark! Space planning revealed we could re-use most of the furniture we’d purchased for the prior home (great news!) We set to work right away to add a few needed pieces and personal touches to turn the new space into the welcoming and elegant home the client desired. Key project elements included:

  • Per the client’s request: a showstopping home office, which is the first room you see upon entry into the home. We fully furnished and decorated the space using rich colors and glamorous pieces.
  • New lighting fixtures throughout, with selections focused on elegant and unique pieces to better reflect the client’s style.
  • New paint colors and wallpaper in select areas to add richness and depth to the space
  • Art, mirrors and accessories to fit the scale and color palette of the new home. Built-in shelving was accessorized with decorative objects, baskets and boxes.

SOUTHPARK HOME OFFICE DESIGN

We chose a champagne colored waterfall desk with chevron grain, set off by a deep navy wallpaper by Liberty of London. An amethyst and gold butterfly print, a selection we’d made for the client’s prior home, made the perfect focal accent. The fabulous pendant light is by Forestier.

FAVORITE FINDS

I saw it, I loved it, and I want you to know about it!

ceramic artist

I met ceramic artist Miru R. at a popup shop at High Point Market and was enthralled by her work. Her wide range of hand-built pottery includes the sweet floral pots shown here, as well as more contemporary styles in dreamy wash glazes and horsehair raku. I brought two pieces home but wanted everything! Shop her work under “one of a kind” pieces at  Shop Seagrass.

painted boxes

We were meandering the St. Ouen flea in market in Paris, when an American voice greeted to us in English. The friendly man turned out to be Andre Lahori, a Chicago-born artist who’d taken up residence in Paris. We were completely taken by his work – a display of wooden wine boxes that he paints in in colorful, one-of-a-kind graphic designs inspired by Paris. He took us into his little studio, and showed us more of his work – intricate glass etchings, which he creates on bottles and glassware. What an amazing talent! Find his work at Mis En Bouteille.

wood side table

There’s nothing better than furniture that happens to be practical, cleverly designed, attractive AND affordable. This little side table by Unfnshd hits all the marks. It comes flat-packed to reduce shipping waste, and assembles in seconds with a notched design that requires no hardware. What a handy little piece for a kids room or casual space (I bought one for my office!)  Order at Unfnshed.
