Visiting the Phillips Collection Warehouse

Phillips Collection thumbnail imageOne of the best things about my job as a designer is the chance to peek behind the curtain (or behind the custom draperies, I should say) at the rarefied world of high-end furniture design. I recently had the chance to tour the warehouse of one of my favorite North Carolina furniture companies, Phillips Collection. Phillips Collection is especially known for raw, live-edge and natural wood furniture and home accents created from found and fallen timber. Most pieces in the collection are one-of-a-kind, with gorgeous natural variations in form and coloration.

Mirrors are one of my favorite ways to add light, sparkle and style to a room. These Chamcha mirrors from Phillips Collection are made from log slices.

Phillips Collection Dining Room

This stunning raw edge dining table pairs unexpectedly well with the modern seatbelt chairs from Phillips Collection. These chairs were featured in the movie “The Hunger Games”. Photo via phillipscollection.com.

Phillips Collection has won numerous design awards, including a “Best of the Year” award from Interior Design Magazine. They are also committed to sustainable practices, and in fact they are a founding member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council. During my recent visit I was able to see of the newest products in the line. Here are some photos from my warehouse tour:

PC Origins table

Their Origins line includes coffee tables as well as the dining tables seen here. Each piece has a unique shape, dimensions, and grain pattern. As you can see, the tables can be made with either a wood or metal base.

The petrified wood used for these stools/side tables has such an interesting coloration. It's also an extremely hard (and heavy!) material.

I strangely fascinated by anything made of resin, and these resin-filled wood coffee tables are no exception. They are a brand new product to the line, not seen on the website yet!

Did you know a tree root makes the perfect coffee table? Here they [;ane off the top to create a surface for the glass. Again, no two are alike!

PC wood wall panels

I really liked these wood wall panels – they remind me of dice. Wouldn’t they be perfect in a game room or man-cave?

It only takes a single special piece of furniture to elevate an entire room, and I think that’s something that the unique pieces from Phillips Collection do very well. In this family room, I used coffee table from their Origins line to create a sense of warmth and provide a focal point that was sculptural and organic:

In this living room I designed, the Phillips Collection coffee table is the centerpiece of the room. I chose it for both style and durability in a household with youg children.

I hope you enjoyed my little behind-the-scenes tour of Phillips Collection! I am always excited to discover new and fabulous companies creating great design here in North Carolina, and glad to share it here. If you’re looking for that special, one-of-a-kind piece to make your space spectacular, I hope you’ll give me a call.
