The Last Straw has all of the materials you’d need for luscious floral arrangements, wreaths, tree trimmings, mantle displays, and tablescapes (read about my own foray into tablescapes here). But for me it’s kind of like being a kid in a candy shop: starstruck by so many choices. Here’s an album of photos I took during my visit:

I really love their faux fruits and vegetables – they’re pretty realistic (not every piece is the same). And as a busy working mom, I’m generally too distracted to change out displays all that often. So as lovely as fresh fruits and florals are, I actually prefer something that isn’t going to decay or require a whole lot of maintenance. Keeping in mind how much I’ve enjoyed the faux lemons I bought from The Last Straw a few years ago (see the centerpiece I made using them on the left), I decided to add to my collection. After much deliberation, my selections included a bag of rosehips and two artichokes. The rosehips have that perfect red-orange I love for fall, the artichokes will somehow work their way onto my Christmas table.
The Last Straw has been in business 22 years, and is located right on Main Street in Blowing Rock. They’re open Monday-Saturday 10-6, and Sunday 1-6.
