Slate Interiors

Slate Interiors StorefrontSlate Interiors (1401 Central Ave, Charlotte) is the kind of place I like to go to for a regular dose of inspiration. Lucky me, it’s also right in my neighborhood! Self-described as “Paris Flea Market Meets SoHo”, Slate is a treasure trove with over a dozen different vendor stalls.  Each stall is a well-curated and artfully composed blend of old and new. You’ll find vintage furniture and iron candelabras are alongside new pillows and custom wallpaper.  As you can see from the photos, there’s also an abundance of paintings, most by local artists.

One thing I like about the Slate vendors is that the collections include items with a broad range of price points, and there are many pieces that are quite wallet-friendly. I think the mix of high and low makes the vignettes especially interesting. Here are some photos I took during a recent visit:

In this last photo, look closely at the jade green fish bottle sitting on the shelf. It’s actually an old Avon bottle. I love it! Made me think, hmmmm, Avon bottles might make a fun collection.

If you are planning a visit to Slate, please note their upcoming clearance/red tag sale to be hosted in their adjacent warehouse, next Thursday -Saturday July 21st-23rd.  And you just might want to to spend a little time afterwards exploring the Plaza Midwood neighborhood in Charlotte.  One of the neighborhood’s newest restaurants, Midwood Smokehouse, is right next door. I haven’t been there yet, and can’t wait to give it a try!
