MoNA Gallery: Local Art in Plaza Midwood

MoNA LOGOSignage in the window says, “Wine” and “Chocolate”. And that’s all it took to get ME into the store. Once inside the charming gray bungalow on the corner of Central and Hawthorne, I discovered even more to be excited about. Plaza Midwood’s newest art gallery is called MoNA, which stands for Museum of Neighborhood Art. They’ve recently changed their name from Plaza Muse to MoNA, which is reflected in their Mona Lisa-inspired logo. The store mainly showcases the work of local Charlotte artists, including paintings, fine photography, sculpture, pottery, jewelry and furniture. The artwork is displayed casually in a series of rooms, much as it would appear in the home.

Formerly called Plaza Muse, the gallery has recently been re-branded as MoNA.

When owner Dan Butner opened the gallery last fall, he envisioned a place where friends could gather to shop, discuss art, participate in classes, and enjoy wine and gourmet chocolate. You’ll be tempted by thirty varieties of Davidson Chocolate, and an assortment of fine wines to be available for sale later this spring. Dan has established partnerships with Blue Sky Photography, which occupies the rear of the building, and Frock Shop, a clothing boutique opening in February that will cohabit within the gallery.
