I think this may be the only time of the year when we get real mail anymore. How quaint it seems, that hand-addressed envelope with an old-fashioned stamp, slipped in among the bills and flyers and catalogues. With the last of my Christmas cards finally out in the mail today, I’ve been thinking about how to display the cards I’ve received from friends and family. Some capture photos of new babies and growing families, with children I gasp over because I can’t believe it’s been THAT long since I saw them last. Others are little works of art, with charming seasonal scenes printed on heavy cardstock. Each has been thoughtfully selected or crafted and deserves a special place in our home.
As I was mulling it over, I cast a critical eye on the 3-tier serving platter on my buffet cabinet. I’d bought it long ago, imagining myself serving delicate finger sandwiches and exquisite pastries. REALITY CHECK: 99.998% of the time it is a catchall for dinner napkins, mail, and other detritus. Hmmm…..if I took the plates off, maybe it could work as a card display rack?
