How ever do my musings on Mad Men relate to design in the Carolinas? Hold on honey, I’m getting there. The return of Mad Men reminded me of a discovery I made during my visit to High Point Market last fall: the new furniture line designed by Dwell Studio and produced by North Carolina furniture maker Precedent. If you’re a fan of mid-century style similar to what you see on Mad Men, you have to check out this retro-inspired collection:Dwell Studio for Precedent

I have long loved Dwell for their rich and sophisticated color palettes and contemporary graphic prints. In fact, my first splurge for my son’s nursery was a crib set by Dwell. Which was quickly followed by a grown-up Dwell bedding set for mom and dad! Dwell’s line for Precedent successfully marries the streamlined styles of the 50’s and 60’s with fabrics and materials that are oh-so-today. Here are some exclusive showroom photos of the collection:

I think this line exudes Mad Men cool but in a way that’s firmly planted in the 21st century. It would integrate really well into a range of home styles, lending just a hint of vintage appeal to transitional and modern interiors. As I wandered through the Precedent showroom in High Point, I will admit that a little voice inside my head was hard at work trying to justify a few pieces for my own home. Darn that spending moratorium I’m on!!
