The kitchen underwent a full renovation, with all cabinetry and surfaces replaced, bringing light and airiness to a formerly dark and dated space. **Featured in Charlotte Home & Garden magazine** This second-level bonus room space was converted into a cozy bedroom suite for the client’s teenage son. Built-ins and window seat add architectural detail and functional storage to the room, and a custom-designed wood headboard with drop-down panels allows the queen size bed to nest perfectly into the window dormer. This Craftsman era home received several key updates in keeping with the homeowners’ love of the Arts and Crafts style. Tamara Heather Interior Design solved the living room’s double challenge of lack of a foyer, and lack of wall space for a television by designing a custom double-sided oak TV/media cabinet that acts as a room divider and defines the entry. This tiny room, formerly a home office, was transformed into a bright and cheerful nautical-themed nursery. The installation of bead board wainscoting and plantation shutters adds crisp architectural detail, while red accents including a weathered whale plaque lend a pop of color. A seaglass-hued paint color on the ceiling softens the overall effect.
This traditional-meets-industrial style kitchen renovation was designed for an active family with three young children. Updates included removing an awkwardly-placed peninsula, and replacing it with a nine foot long island that houses the sink and dishwasher and provides a generous worksurface for food prep. New quartz countertops and mosiac tile backsplash update the look and feel of the space, along with the addition of barstool seating and stainless steel pendant lights. Designed for a busy family with two young children, this family room easily transitions from playtime to cocktail hour. These homeowners hired Tamara to to assist with an update to their 1980’s era home, targeting the kitchen, dining room and powder room. The kitchen underwent a complete overhaul, with custom designed cabinetry, new lighting, flooring and tilework. The room was opened up by removing a wall to the adjacent family room. A new butler’s pantry and laundry room were added and act as a pass-through to the dining room, which was also updated with new wood flooring and paint. The powder room received a custom-designed vanity and new tile backsplash.
After leasing a retail site in a prime location in SoHo, NY, the owners of the Susan Megson Gallery engaged Tamara to completely transform a formerly lackluster purse shop into an elegant glass gallery. To accomplish the owners’ vision, Tamara designed custom display cases, floating glass shelving and specialty lighting. A subdued color and materials palette was developed that lends drama to the artworks on display.
Tamara’s own residence has been a canvas for her creativity and personal style. The family’s historic bungalow has undergone two renovations, with the addition of a new kitchen, powder room, and master suite. The living and dining room spaces were opened up with a half-height wall, craftsman style columns, and a double-sided fireplace. The launch of this now thriving cupcake business started with the interior transformation of a retail site that had formerly held a sandwich shop. Tamara helped the owners to realize their vision of a bright, playful and clean-lined interior on a modest project budget. Design elements included a new color palette, signage, lighting, stain-resistant upholstery and draperies.
Tamara designed this garden-themed nursery for her client’s infant daughter. Cheerful birds and butterflies and brightly colored birdhouses bring whimsical charm to this cozy space.

Built into a steeply sloping site, the home maximizes its long-range southwest views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The clean, contemporary interiors are warmed by hand-built furnishings and art sourced from local artisans and galleries.
